Today's visit was really good!
Last nights weight: 2lbs 2oz
Respiratory
Austin is still not requiring additional oxygen and was even taken off the jet ventilator and is now on the conventional. We had to leave for about an hour while they did a procedure on another baby and when we returned the conventional had been turned down. He is really close to coming off and going onto Sipap. The Sipap is like a cpap but it will remind him to take a breath should he forget.
Surgery/Stoma
He is still recovering well from his surgery. They reduced his pain meds/sedation further and he seems to be tolerating it. The surgery site looks good. They are waiting for it to start producing a little stool and then they will start trying to feed him. Once it starts producing they will place a bag over his ostomy until they close it, which should be about 6 weeks.
PDA
The valve in Austin's heart that would normally close shortly after birth seems to still be open. He is not symptomatic now but could be in the future. It's a wait and watch for now.
Other tests
Austin had an ultrasound done of his head to check for bleeding in his brain which is common in preemies. At this point they could not detect any bleeding in Austin's brain. Yippee!
